Just over a year ago, IPS Logistics Group purchased the business of Kilby Customs & Freight, as part of the group’s strategy to expand the range of service offerings to customers.
The group had earlier invested in transport operations at the Port of Brisbane, taken a long-term position in rail arrangements between Narrabri and the Port of Sydney, and broadened the group’s product mix and customer base to span a range of industry sectors in both import and export work. These initiatives followed the 2006 management buyout and subsequent restructuring of the group.
Reflecting on the first-year performance of the Kilby acquisition, IPS Managing Director John Cooper noted: “The Kilby business has been an outstanding success, not only in its above-budget profit performance, but also in helping us deliver a more integrated suite of services to our customers. Since the 2006 shareholding changes, our growth plans have centred on several broad strategies - Kilby has helped us with a number of these, including functional and geographic expansion."
